Anti-Crepuscular Rays by DrewHopper Anti-Crepuscular Rays by DrewHopper
Note: This is NOT a photo-manipulation!

Here's an explanation [link] of this stunning formation. It is called Anti-Crepuscular Rays.

I've only ever seen a pink band across the horizon at twilight, but this afternoon's display blew my breath away. The unusual formation in the sky, really captivating me as I took this photo. It felt like a scene from some kind of alien movie, as the creatures from another world land on Earth.

ARGH. I wish I had know about this when I was making this. I would have asked to use these rocks for reference. Alas, live and learn. Very nice photo.

love the clarity and detail you got in the rocks. thats not as easy as people think. i know I struggle with that sometimes. of course I shoot into the sun too much, but anyway, great job. love this shot.

Looks like a scene from an alien movie; have you seen avatar yet? You sure got a great moment with this, lucky you to be near such a glorious piece of the coast.

One of my favorite sky formations we get wicked earth shadow all the time down here but the anti-crep rays every now and then. These are exceptionally strong. Great capture

Usually happens, I'd assume, in more mid-tropical latitudes...but I could be wrong. :-)

Very nice Drew, loving that sky, it's what makes the shot in my opinion.
Foreground rock is a good choice to have as the subject, great textures, colours, and sharpness.

Top notch work my friend.
